University Medical System, Dimensions Approve Affiliation

BALTIMORE (AP) — The University of Maryland Medical System has approved entering into an affiliation agreement with Dimensions Health Corporation.

Local news outlets report the UMMS board of directors executive committee voted on Wednesday to bring the Prince George’s County-based health system under the UMMS banner. Dimensions’ board approved the merger last month, as part of the university’s process of purchasing the smaller system.

Under the agreement, the University of Maryland Medical System will be the only corporate member of Dimensions. The two health systems must reach several legal, regulatory and financial agreements and prove their affiliation does not violate federal antitrust laws to finalize the deal.

The systems aim to complete the affiliation this year, with construction of a new regional medical center in Largo expected to begin later this year.
