FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — The Latest on a D.C.-area mayor facing drug charges after a meth-for-sex sting (all times local):

Police say they had an idea that they were pursuing a northern Virginia mayor from the beginning of the investigation that led to his arrest in a meth-for-sex sting.
Fairfax County police Capt. Jack Hardin said at a news conference Friday that police received a tip that Fairfax Mayor R. Scott Silverthorne was involved in a dating website where he was exchanging methamphetamines for sex. He says Silverthorne made contact two days after a detective created a profile.
Hardin says after detectives met Silverthorne at a hotel Thursday night, they saw him meet suppliers and they were arrested, too. Silverthorne is charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fairfax County Schools spokesman John Torre says Silverthorne was hired as a substitute teacher in April and terminated Friday because of this arrest.
Spokesman Maj. Ed O’Carroll said all parties involved were adults.

A northern Virginia mayor is facing drug charges after police say he was arrested in a meth-for-sex sting.
Fairfax County Police said in a statement Friday that investigators looking into a possible methamphetamine distributor made contact with a suspect who turned out to be Fairfax Mayor R. Scott Silverthorne through a website used to arrange sexual encounters between men.
Police say Silverthorne indicated he could provide methamphetamine for sexual encounters and undercover detectives agreed to meet.
Police say 50-year-old Silverthorne met the detectives at a hotel Thursday and was arrested after he gave them methamphetamine. Silverthorne, who is also a substitute teacher, is charged with felony distribution of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police say detectives located Silverthorne’s two suppliers and they were also arrested and charged.
Fairfax is located west of Washington.
