Richmond Airport Hopes to Finally Recover $3.98M From TSA

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Richmond International Airport officials are hoping to finally receive an approximately $4 million reimbursement they say the federal government promised to give them more than a decade ago.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/2bRpGfX ) reports that airport officials submitted a reimbursement application to the Transportation Security Administration last week, asking for $3.98 million to cover 95 percent of the cost of a 2003 project to revamp the airport’s baggage inspection system at the TSA’s request.

The TSA wrote in 2008 that it was “actively working” on obtaining the reimbursement funds.

The airport’s recent application indicates that airport officials will receive an “evaluation determination” by Dec. 19.

A TSA spokeswoman says the agency has now “developed a plan for reimbursement.”
