One Dead in Fatal US 50 Crash; Traffic Blocked in Both Directions

WASHINGTON — Traffic was blocked off in both directions on U.S. 50 in D.C. because of a fatal crash Friday morning.

D.C. Police say at least two cars crashed on the inbound lanes of New York Avenue NE at around 3:10 a.m.

According to D.C. Fire, one person is dead and two others are injured.

Four vehicles were involved. Three were on fire.

One person was trapped in a vehicle, but emergency personnel were able to free them.

The outbound lanes are expected to reopen before 6 a.m. Police say the inbound lanes will be closed until the beginning of the morning rush hour.

Outbound traffic is blocked off at Bladensburg Road NE. Inbound traffic is being diverted at Kenilworth Avenue.
