Library Employee Accused of Stealing Computers

ROANOKE, Va. (AP) — A Roanoke County library employee is accused of stealing more than $10,000 worth of electronic equipment.

Local media outlets report that Roanoke County police say in a news release 43-year-old Marino Hildebran Rancier Sosa was arrested Saturday on one count of embezzlement.

Police say an internal audit conducted last week revealed that several items, including four iMac computers and two iPad tablets, were missing. The missing equipment is worth about $10,200.

Police spokeswoman Amy Whittaker said police believe Sosa purchased the equipment, but the computers and tablets “were never placed within a particular library.” The equipment hasn’t been located.

Sosa, who has worked as the library system’s electronic services specialist since 2004, was placed on administrative leave pending the investigation. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
