Fairfax Co. Man Carrying Drugs, Cash Abducted Uber Driver, Police Say

WASHINGTON — A Centreville, Virginia, man is facing abduction charges after police say he refused to get out of an Uber driver’s car Tuesday and forced her to drive to other locations.

Prince William County Police said they received a call from a friend of the Uber driver Tuesday afternoon to report that she had possibly been abducted by one of her customers.

Police identified the customer as 26-year-old Harpreet Sandhu.

The driver, a 26-year-old who was not identified by police, said she had picked up an Uber customer in Woodbridge, Virginia, shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday afternoon but asked him to get out after learning that he was carrying drugs and a large amount of money, according to police. He refused and then forced her to drive to several other locations in Woodbridge, police said.

Police, who were tipped off by the driver’s friend, were able to stop the vehicle in the Minnieville area and arrested Sandhu. Police said they found marijuana, prescription pills and money.

In addition to the abduction charge, Sandhu has been charged with possession of marijuana and narcotics with the intent to distribute.
