WASHINGTON — Drivers in the D.C. metro area are among the worst in the nation, according to insurance claims tracked by Allstate.
The safest drivers are in Kansas City, Kansas.
Allstate crunched data including average years between collisions and collision likelihood compared to the national average. It found the average driver in the U.S. will experience one collision every 10 years.
In Kansas City, drivers go an average of 14.9 years between collisions and are 32.8 percent less likely to get into a wreck compared to the national average.
By contrast, D.C. area drivers go an average of 4.3 years between collisions and are 132.4 percent more likely to get in a wreck. That ranks Washington No. 197 on Allstate’s list of 200 metropolitan areas.
Baltimore ranks No. 199, with 4.2 years between collisions and the likelihood of a crash 140.6 percent higher than the national average.
Boston ranks as the worst city for drivers. The average Boston driver goes just 3.6 years between collisions and is 179.6 percent more likely to get into a collision than the national average.
