CHESAPEAKE, Va. (AP) — A Virginia city is helping to bring resources to people displaced by a fatal fire at a senior housing community.
The Virginian-Pilot reports that the city of Chesapeake is opening a disaster resource center for them on Thursday at New Galilee Baptist Church. It will close at the end of the weekend.
Three people died from Saturday’s blaze, which officials say was likely caused by a lightning strike. The apartments housed about 150 units.
Residents of the Chesapeake Crossing Senior Community Apartments will be able to access resources and assistance from government and private agencies. But no financial transactions or physical donations, such as furniture or clothing, will be available.
