ANNAPOLIS, Md. — All westbound lanes of U.S. 50 are shut down near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge after a fatal crash early Wednesday morning, and police expect them to remain closed through the morning rush hours.
The Maryland State Police said two people died in the crash just east of Bay Dale Drive a little after 2 a.m. Both are believed to be the drivers of two of the three vehicles involved in the crash. No other passengers were in the vehicles of the drivers who were killed.
The driver and passenger of the third vehicle were taken to Anne Arundel County Medical Center for treatment, police said.
The names of the victims have not been released.
The cause of the crash is not known. Police need to reconstruct the accident, which is why westbound U.S. 50 will remain closed.
Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration workers are on the scene and are detouring westbound traffic at Cape St. Clair Road. Drivers are then able to make their way back to Bay Dale Drive and U.S. 50.
