1 Dead After Crash, Driving Wrong Way on Route 97

WASHINGTON — One person is dead after a Saturday morning crash on Route 97 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

The driver of a 2011 Nissan Sentra was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Route 97, according to a news release.

Troopers responded to calls shortly after 2:30 a.m. and were sent to intercept the car but additional calls reported a crash on southbound Route 97, north of Route 50.

The driver of the Nissan Sentra struck a 2015 Nissan Maxima head-on.

The driver at fault, who drove the Nissan Sentra, was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the driver is being withheld until family is notified. It is unknown why the driver was traveling the wrong way on the highway.

The driver of the Nissan Maxima, Rostant Edvin Ndel Sandjok, 25, of Capitol Heights, was transported to the University of Maryland Medical Center. The passenger of that vehicle, Noah J. Seely, 21, of Annapolis, was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by helicopter.
