BALTIMORE -- And every car mechanic around Fells Point is changing his shop's name to Joe's Garage right about ... now.
That's because Baltimore's public art commission hopes to erect a bust of eccentric rocker Frank Zappa in the city's Fells Point neighborhood.
The commission formally endorsed the idea during its meeting Wednesday.
Tracy Baskerville, a spokeswoman for Baltimore's Office of Promotion and the Arts, says the commission will settle on a final location after meetings with Fells Point community leaders. But she says commissioners would like to place the bust near the harbor on Broadway, the street that anchors the neighborhood. Fells Point is a major tourist draw and is known for its nightlife and bohemian vibe.
The bust is a gift from Zappa fans in Lithuania and is a replica of one in Vilnius, Lithuania's capital. Zappa was born in Baltimore. See more pictures of the original bust by clicking here.
