Looking for a place where you can stimulate your mouth and your mind? You need to take a trip to Sakura Steak and Seafood.
Located off of Baltimore Avenue in the center of Laurel's shopping district, Sakura offers traditional Japanese entrees at surprisingly reasonable prices. Customers are welcomed by the warm smiles of hostesses adorned in elaborate kimonos and are seated around an open hibachi grill where chefs prepare meals right before their hungry eyes. Guests can choose from a variety of appetizing dishes, with everything from steak and shrimp to chicken and sushi on the menus that fold out into Japanese fans. Soup and salad are served as customers wait for the main event.
Although not your typical place for dancing, the chefs always start a party when they start cooking. They usually open up their meal presentation with a burst of flames on the grill as customers watch in awe and keep the fun going with their expert knife skills and other tricks. The famous, creamy "yum yum" sauce, poured into little dishes to be used for dipping, lights up the faces of customers waiting for their shrimp flambe or grilled scallops. The "peeing" water bottle and the onion "choo-choo train" also stir up many laughs and conversations around the table. Dinner usually ends with a game of "toss the shrimp," where chefs rally customers to catch small pieces of shrimp with their mouths from a distance.
The entertainment doesn't have to stop at dinner because a full bar is located in the restaurant, where drinks are served in animated Japanese figurines.
Open Monday-Friday 11:30 a.m.-2 p.m. for lunch and 4:30-10 p.m. for dinner. Saturday hours: 12-10 p.m.
