The Library of Congress’ Jazz Film Series (discussed here and here) comes to a close this Wednesday night with a bang: the world premiere of Don McGlynn’s documentary Ed Thigpen: Master of Time, Rhythm and Taste. The film explores the life and career of drummer Ed Thigpen, who worked most prominently with Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson and Billy Taylor, and is now a jazz exile who’s lived in Copenhagen since 1972.
Larry Applebaum, the curator of the Jazz Film Series, has just announced the evening’s special guest: Celia Mingus Zaentz, titanic bassist Charles Mingus‘ second wife and the executive producer of the film.
The film screens Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Library of Congress’ Mary Pickford Theater. Admission is free but the theater only has 60 seats, so get your reservation quick by calling (202) 707-5677.
