School Security Guard Who Pleaded Guilty to Sex With Student Accused of Visiting Victim

Mike Lievano accused of violating terms of probation

What to Know

  • In May, police said he had a sexual relationship with an eighth grade student from Col. E Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring.
  • He pleaded guilty in December, and a judge sentenced him to a suspended jail sentence and supervised probation.
  • He was found in the victim’s home in early February by the victim’s mother, according to police and prosecutors.

A former Montgomery County Public Schools security guard who pleaded guilty to having sex with a 14-year-old student is again facing arrest.

In court filings obtained by the News4 I-Team, prosecutors said Mike Lievano violated the terms of his probation and was caught in the home of the victim earlier this month.

Lievano pleaded guilty to a sex offense in December. In May, police said he’d had a sexual relationship with an eighth grade student from Col. E Brooke Lee Middle School in Silver Spring. Lievano avoided prison for the 2017 crime when a judge sentenced him to a suspended jail sentence and supervised probation.

He was fired by Montgomery County Public Schools, where he’d worked since September 2015.

In a police affidavit and accompanying court filing from prosecutors, the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office said Lievano was found in the victim’s home in early February by the victim’s mother.

According to the court filings, Lievano was ordered to stay away from the victim as part of his sentence and probation.

“On Feb. 8, the mother of the victim came home around 3:00 p.m. and found the defendant and the victim together in the home,” the court filings said.

The police affidavit said the victim’s mother “stated her discomfort about (the) relationship and Lievano left the location.”

His attorney, Andrew Jezic, said Lievano turned himself into Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies for the alleged violation of probation. His attorney said a bench warrant had not yet been formally issued by the court, allowing Lievano to return to his Silver Spring home.

“It appears there was no sexual activity of any kind during that visit or anytime since he was fired from the school system,” Jezic said.

Lievano was the second of two Montgomery County Public Schools security guards arrested for sex crimes against students in 2017. The other, Mark Yantsos, was also accused of violating a court order to stay away from the victim of his crime. Yantsos, former head of security at Richard Montgomery High School in Rockville, was arrested a second time in 2017 for allegedly having sex with the same 17-year-old girl, after his release from jail for the initial crime. Yantsos was sentenced to 18 months in jail in a plea agreement with prosecutors.
