The Scene
The most fun things to do and places to be in D.C., Maryland and Virginia
The festival typically brings in close to 30,000 film enthusiasts during the five-day run. While most films will be shown in at the AFI Silver Theatre, the fest is also branching out to other locations this year, including the Newseum, several Smithsonian locations and the Goethe-Institut.
(Check the schedule for a detailed rundown on the alternate locations.)
AFI Docs will also offer a few post-film events, including the cocktail reception after a June 19 showing of "Letters to Jackie," which documents life after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, a time when his widow, Jacqueline Kennedy, received thousands of letters from the public. The letters are read during the film by actors like Viola Davis, Channing Tatum, Betty White and Anne Hathaway.
Take your pick for options on ticket pricing. Pay $13 per movie, or buy a combo ticket package ($100) to get combination of 10 tickets. Some movies are free. Check schedule for pricing. (Admission to galas and other special events is extra.)
