“If/Then,” Starring Idina Menzel, Premieres at National Theatre

The Broadway-bound musical "If/Then,", starring Idina Menzel of “Wicked” fame, made its buzzed-about world premiere at D.C.’s very own National Theatre Nov. 5.

“If/Then” brings Tony Award winner Menzel back to the stage for the first time since her iconic role as Elphaba in "Wicked." Created by the team behind "Next to Normal," "If/Then" tells the story of Elizabeth (Menzel), a woman on the verge of turning 40 who moves to New York City in hopes of a fresh start, only to have her carefully planned new life take her down a road she didn’t expect.

Actually, make that two roads, as her life spins apart into two parallel existences as the audience just tries to hang on.

The contemporary musical also features Broadway heavyweights such as "Rent" star Anthony Rapp, Tony Award-winner LaChanze and James Snyder, directed by Michael Greif ("Rent;" "Next to Normal"), and is written and composed by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winners Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey.

With sweeping songs and an all-star cast, "If/Then" plays at the National Theatre through Dec. 8. Tickets are available online.
