History to a T(ea) at White Oak Tea Tavern

It's always tea time at White Oak Tea Co. in Troutville, Va., a pub-style tearoom located in the 18th-century Cloyd House.

Plop down next to the wood-burning fireplace (OK, that's better done in fall or winter) in the historic Cloyd house, a refurbished home turned tavern, and enjoy their premium whole leaf teas in flavors such as ginger root, lavender and peach apricot along with Assam, Kenyan and Yunnan blends.

To go along with your tea, the simple but ideal tea fare includes organic bagels and baked spinach-artichoke chicken salad. Do try the scones or the rum raisin cookie ("Rumazin") for dessert -- it's made with Dog Fish Head's Brown Honey Rum.

White Oak Tea is located at 5690 Roanoke Road in Troutville, Va., about two hours from downtown D.C. Hours are 10:30 to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
