O'Malley Gives the Gift of Judicial Appointments

Makes appointment to state's top court

Just before the Christmas holiday, Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley announced a raft of new judicial appointments, including one to the state's top court.

Close to home, the governor filled vacancies in the Circuit Courts of Montgomery, Frederick, Howard, and St. Mary's counties.  He made 8 Circuit Court appointments in all.

Anne Korbel Albright, who has been running her own private practice since 1996, and Gary Eugene Bair, who served for 20 years in the Maryland Attorney General office before entering private practice were both named to the Montgomery County Circuit Court.

O'Malley promoted Robert F. McDonald to the Court of Appeals.  McDonald has served for 15 years as a prosecutor in the role of chief counsel of opinions and advice for the Maryland office of the Attorney General.

“Bob McDonald possesses one of the best legal minds in the entire state," Gov. O'Malley said, "and has an impressive record of public service.”

The governor did not address vacancies in several of the state's district courts.  Currently, three district court seats are unfilled in Prince George's County.
