Case Keenum, Colt McCoy and Dwayne Haskins arrived at the training camp in consideration for the starting quarterback position of the Washington Redskins.

    Keenum earned the assignment.

Head coach Jay Gruden said Sunday the veteran would open in the visit to the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the season.

Not that Keenum dominated during his first preseason with Washington.

Due to McCoy’s leg injury and Haskins adjusting to the NFL, Keenum's experience — and availability — prevailed.

"As it is now, we're going to start with Case in the first game, and then Dwayne will prepare to be ready to play, and then we'll see," Gruden said after Washington's first practice since the 19-7 victory Thursday in Atlanta.

Washington ended the 2018 campaign with its two best quarterbacks, Alex Smith and McCoy, out for injuries.

Before using the 15th overall draft pick in April at Haskins, Ohio State, the Redskins acquired Keenum from Denver in March in a low-risk swap that involved some draft picks from the final rounds.
