Nationals Park was the site of a historic event Tuesday as Los Angeles Angels first baseman Albert Pujols became the 26th player in MLB history to hit 500 home runs.
What made the milestone even more memorable was that Pujols hit his 499th and 500th home runs in the same game, the first time that has ever been done. (Two other players hit their 500th and 501st in the same game: Mark McGwire in 1999 and Harmon Killebrew in 1971.)
Coincidentally, Pujols also hit his 400th home run at Nationals Park in 2010 as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals.
"To have more than 19,000 players who wore a big league uniform and to have only 26 players to do this, it's pretty special," Pujols told reporters.
Pujols is the third-youngest of the 26 players to reach 500 home runs at 34 years, 96 days.
