Road Closures, Safety Restrictions for National Christmas Tree Lighting

    If you're headed to Thursday's National Christmas Tree lighting on the White House's Ellipse, or if you'll be driving in the area, here are the road closures and safety regulations you need to know:

    Road Closures
    The following roads will be closed from 2:30 p.m. until 7 p.m.:

    17th Street, NW closed from Independence Avenue to New York Avenue NW

    15th Street, NW closed from Independence Avenue to E Street NW

    Constitution Avenue from 14th Street to 18th Street NW

    Madison Drive from 14th Street to 15th Street

    Jefferson Drive from 14th Street to 15th Street

    C St NW from 18th Street to 17th Street

    D St NW from 18th Street to 17th Street

    E St NW from 18th Street to 17th Street

    F St NW from 18th Street to 17th Street

    The following roads will be closed from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.:

    Pennsylvania Avenue from 14th Street to 15th Street NW

    15th Street, NW closed from Independence Avenue to New York Avenue NW

    Safety Regulations
    The following items are prohibited:

    Tablets, iPads, tripods, monopods and camera sticks

    Bags, backpacks and suitcases

    Umbrellas

    Drones and other unmanned aircraft systems

    Animals other than service/guide dogs

    Bicycles, folding chairs, balloons, coolers, glass, thermal or metal containers

    Signs or flags of any kind

    Any pointed objects, including pocket knives

    Aerosols, tobacco products or lighters

    Firearms, ammunition, fireworks, laser pointers, stun guns/tasers, mace/pepper spray, toy weapons or knives of any kind.

    Any other items determined to be potential safety hazards.

    The following items are permitted:

    Stollers

    Wheelchairs

    All items will be searched.
