Coming Soon: Wagamama Heading to D.C.? For Real This Time?

Wagamama originally set its sights on a May 2010 opening in D.C. ... which came and went.

However, Eater reports today that the U.K.-based noodle chain intends to expand its U.S. presence to an astonishing 650 locations. That’s a pretty big jump from its current number of stores, which adds up to about 90 worldwide.

What does this mean for D.C.? Back in May, the Washington Business Journal reported that the Penn Quarter location’s future was still uncertain (despite paying rent on the space, a spokesperson couldn’t confirm that Wagamama would proceed with development), but this most recent news could mean that plans are back on track. However, the most convincing piece of evidence is the proudly displayed ‘coming soon’ sign at 418 7th St. NW in Penn Quarter.

Let’s not hold our breath, though. That goes for these guys, too, who have started a Facebook petition to entice Wagamama to D.C. Hey, it worked for Betty White on Saturday Night Live...
