Northern Virginia Delegate Barbara Comstock says she will run for Congress, seeking to replace her former boss Rep. Frank Wolf (R-VA) who is retiring.

The McLean resident , who represents parts of Fairfax and Loudoun counties, made her announcement on her Facebook page and through a fundraising letter to supporters. Comstock also owns a small business.

Her statement reads in part:

"My family and I have been heartened and encouraged over the past few weeks by the strong support for my run for the 10th Congressional District in Virginia. Having lived, worked, started a business and raised my family here over the past 30 years, it is a great honor to have the opportunity to run for this seat...

I am running for Congress because I believe my strong record as a common sense conservative leader is what is needed in Congress. I know how to effectively fight for Northern Virginia's hard working taxpayers having first learned from Congressman Wolf working in his congressional office."

In addition to her work as a Delegte in Richmond, Comstock held a high profile political position as the Virginia co-chair for GOP Presidential nominee Mitt Romney. Fellow lawmaker & Republican St. Sen. Dick Black, who represents Loudoun County, is also considering a run for 10th congressional seat.

While Rep. Wolf has easily won re-election in recent years, the district's demographics have changed and it's now seen as a potential battleground in 2014.
