A 35-pound cat who was dropped off at a Florida cat shelter has been placed on a diet and is staying in the "chubby cat suite."
Tiger was wheeled into Cat Depot by his owner, who had to move to an assisted living facility.
“Tiger may be close to breaking a world record for biggest cat, but this is no laughing matter,” Cat Depot executive director Shelley Thayer said in a statement. “Health risks of obesity are real. It contributes to medical conditions such as diabetes, arthritis, heart and lung disease, and high blood pressure."
Tiger can only walk a few steps because he is so large. He has been put on diet on which he will lose about one pound per month.
The Cat Depot said domestic cats weigh between 8 and 10 pounds, and usually need up to 200 calories a day.
The nonprofit is a no-kill, free-roaming facility. For more information click here.
