Woman Killed in Hit-And-Run Crash Remembered

A woman is dead and five others are injured after a crash involving multiple vehicles in northeast D.C., police said.

Four cars were involved in the crash on Eastern Avenue NE near the intersection of Division Avenue NE.

D.C. police said Timothy Johnson, 30, of Seat Pleasant, Maryland, was speeding while driving southbound on Eastern Avenue toward Division Avenue, when he struck a SUV and a car traveling northbound.

Police said Johnson's car struck a SUV vehicle head-on, before rear-ending a car. The woman driving the rear-ended car, Kim Moore, 50, of Bladensburg, Maryland, had to be extricated from the car and died, police said.

After the initial collision, the striking vehicle went airborne, flipped and landed on its roof, police said. The driver also hit two parked cars.

A police officer assisted the man driving the striking vehicle to a curb, police said, but he ran away into nearby woods. Officers tracked him down, and police said he was sent to a hospital.

Johnson was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter.

Moore's family told News4 she was driving her daughter and 4-year-old grandson to a Halloween party in the District when the car was struck from behind. Her daughter is still in the hospital and the little boy is OK, relatives said. Family members described Moore as a loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Police said Saturday that four adults and a child were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Another child was treated at the scene of the crash.

Moore's family has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for her funeral. The family told News4 on Sunday that they are having a vigil at the crash site in remembrance of Moore on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 5 p.m.
