Woman Critically Injured After Car Falls 75 Feet Into Creek

A woman was critically injured when the car she was riding in went off the road and fell 75 feet into a creek, Anne Arundel County police said.

It happened about 2:15 a.m. Thursday on Aris T. Allen Boulevard in Annapolis. Police say a Volkswagen Jetta was traveling west when it went into the median, hit a bridge on Church Creek Road, overturned and fell into the creek.

One passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was flown to Shock Trauma in Baltimore, where police say she is in critical condition. Officers say the driver and the other passenger refused medical treatment.

Investigators say cause of the crash appears to be excessive speed and alcohol and not snow or ice on the road.
