Sheriff: Children Left in Cold Car 90 Minutes While Mother Had Makeup Done

A mother of two was arrested Tuesday evening after allegedly leaving her children in a frigid parked car in Waldorf, Md., for more than 90 minutes.

Regina Marie Coleman, 28, was arrested and charged with child neglect after her 6-year-old and 3-year-old daughters were found crying in her Cadillac Escalade outside the St. Charles Towne Center, according to the Charles County Sheriff's Office.

The girls both wore heavy coats but told officers they were cold. Officers noted the temperature was 16 degrees.

Once officers learned her name, they had mall security make an announcement to find Coleman. She found officers outside a department store and told them she was in the mall looking for her lost wallet and had only been gone about 10 minutes, according to the sheriff's office.

The officers investigated further and learned the woman had been in the department store more than 90 minutes, getting her makeup done, the sheriff's office said. They also found her wallet in her purse.

Coleman was charged with child neglect. The children were turned over to relatives.
