Many people have contacted News4 with suspicions about price gouging in derecho's wake.
In Virginia, price gouging is illegal during a state of emergency, which Gov. Bob McDonnell declared Saturday.
D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray declared a state of emergency, meaning businesses cannot charge more than 10 percent more than the average price prior to the storm or face thousand-dollar fines.
Maryland has no law against price gouging, though legislators have considered it in the past.
