Several students were treated Thursday afternoon following a pepper spray incident at Cesar Chavez Charter School in southeast D.C.
The students exited the school during a fire drill and encountered an adult described as a male-to-female transgender person wearing a black dress. The suspect sprayed pepper spray into the air.
Police are looking for that person. They said they do not know if the spray was discharged vindictively or if the sudden appearance of all the students startled her.
Ten students were taken to an area hospital after their eyes were irrigated at the school.
