Taxicab Surcharge Expires Next Week

$1 fee ends Wednesday at midnight

A cab ride in the District is about to get a dollar cheaper.

The $1 gas surcharge expires Wednesday at midnight. The fee went into effect in March 2011 as gas prices skyrocketed, but now gas prices are dropping.

Drivers are now paying about 20 cents less for a gallon of regular than they did last month, according to AAA. Right now, gas in the District is averaging $3.59 per gallon. In Virginia it's $3.28 and in Maryland it’s $3.41.
