Takoma Park Carjacker in Custody

A witness to an attempted carjacking chased the suspect into Takoma Park.

A witness to an attempted carjacking apparently decided to fight crime on his own, chasing the suspect into Takoma Park, where he was later arrested.

The incident began when a man with a knife tried to take a car from a woman and her children at a shopping center in Prince George's County about 2:40 p.m. Saturday, said Chief Ronald A. Ricucci of the Takoma Park Police Department.

Ricucci told the Washington Post that the witness pursued the man on foot from the scene of the attempt into Takoma Park, but the man escaped.

Later, a Takoma Park officer with a dog found the suspect in the woods around 5th and Orchard avenues. He was taken into custody and turned over to Prince George's County police.
