Some Concerned About Slew of Bullets in Police-Involved Shooting

In the aftermath of a police-involved shooting on Wednesday afternoon, some D.C. residents said they were concerned about the volume of bullets fired by officers at a robbery suspect.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. at 30th Street and Naylor Road SE. Sixth District Commander David Taylor said officers attempted to stop a man matching the description of a robbery suspect.

Taylor said the alleged suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Raymond Robinson, then brandished a weapon and shot at officers, who returned fire. Robinson passed away.

Eyewitnesses said they heard at least 20 shots and as many as 48 evidence markers blanketed the scene.

"It was real bad to see someone get shot like that... [it's] terrible. I was upset. They over-fired him," a neighbor said.

Repairmen were back in the neighborhood Friday, fixing damage from several of the bullets that went through a nearby apartment's windows. Luckily, no one was home at the time of the shooting.

Several hours after Wednesday's shooting, D.C. police shot and wounded a man accused of carjacking a FedEx van full of packages.

News4's Mark Segraves reports D.C. police are not answering many questions regarding either shooting, except to say in both cases, the suspects shot at police first.

As is standard procedure in police shootings, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave pending the investigations.

The city has seen 103 homicides so far in 2014, not including two deadly police-involved shootings.
