Sheriff's Deputy Fires Shots After Being Run Off Road

A Maryland sheriff's deputy fired several shots after his patrol vehicle was intentionally struck and run off the road by a female driver.

A patrol vehicle driven by Deputy First Class Richard Wilson was struck by a pickup truck Monday in Calvert County, WTOP-FM reports. Wilson's patrol car left the road and skidded backward through a fence. Deputies say the driver of the pickup, then drove off the road and intentionally struck Wilson's vehicle again and accelerated to push the car down an embankment.

Wilson fired several shots through the patrol vehicle's windshield. The sheriff's office says the suspect was not struck and got out of her vehicle and fled.

A citizen helped Wilson apprehend the suspect. Her name has not been released. The incident is under investigation.
