Sentencing for Drugged-Up Trucker Who Rammed Md. Police

Chase from W. Virginia to Pennsylvania

A trucker who aimed his tractor-trailer at police cars during a chase on Interstate 81 is heading to court in Hagerstown to learn his sentence.

Forty-three-year-old Thomas McNeel of Pontotoc, Miss., faces the prospect of more than 40 years in prison at his sentencing Monday on four counts of second-degree assault plus seven other offenses.

McNeel was convicted at a bench trial in December of aiming his rig at police as they tried to make him stop in December 2010.  He clipped the mirror of one cruiser struck a number of civilian vehicles along the 12 miles of I-81 in Maryland.

The chase began in West Virginia and ended near Greencastle, Pa.

McNeel testified he had consumed methamphetamine and other drugs and couldn't remember the chase.
