Body of Missing Canoeist Found in Loudoun County

Boat tipped over in Beaverdam Creek reservoir

The body of a missing boater was recovered just before noon on Monday, in the Beaverdam Creek Reservoir.

The victim, Anthony M. DiGiovanna, 49, of Ashburn, Va., was canoeing with his 7-year-old son and a dog Sunday afternoon. Their boat capsized around 2:30 p.m.

The boy, who was wearing a life jacket, was helped to the shore by people nearby. He was taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

DiGiovanna, who wasn't wearing a life jacket, wasn't immediately located. Rescue workers from Loudoun and Fairfax counties conducted underwater, aerial and ground searches throughout the evening and into Monday.
