Man Struck and Killed by VRE Train

Manassas riders should seek alternate transportation

VRE Train 325 has received permission to continue to Broad Run, more than two hours after a man was struck and killed.

The impact happened Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Fairfax Station and Fairfax County Parkway, between the Burke Center and Manassas Park stations.

Reports came in shortly before 2:30 p.m. that someone had been struck. It is unclear why he was on the tracks.

VRE had deployed nine buses to transfer more than 300 passengers from the striking train before they gave it the go-ahead to start moving again.

But multiple trains were cancelled: 327, 331, 333, 336 and 338.

Another train, 329, left Union Station at 4:25 p.m., and made all stops until it terminates at Burke Centre. Buses were waiting to transer passengers from there.

Trains 335 and 337 also ran.
