Gas Station Worker Hurt in Apparent Robbery Attempt

Montgomery County police say a Silver Spring gas station worker was injured during an apparent robbery attempt.

Police say officers were called to the Shell gas station on the corner of University Boulevard and Colesville Road around 6:30 a.m. Friday.

Police tweeted that the worker has a head wound, but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic or white male, between 5 foot 8 inches and 5 foot 9 inches tall, wearing black pants and a black jacket, and armed with a black handgun. During the robbery, he concealed his face.

County schools officials say officers had escorted arriving students into Montgomery Blair High School, which is across Colesville Road from the gas station. Police say officers searched the school while students and staff sheltered in place.

No lanes were closed around the busy intersection just north of the Capital Beltway, but traffic moved slowly with a heavy police presence in the area.
