More Robberies on Metropolitan Branch Trail

Seven incidents since May

D.C. Police are warning those who walk or bike the Metropolitan Branch Trail to watch out, as two more robberies have occurred in the past 10 days.

The most recent happened Friday morning, when the suspect asked a man for the time. When the man pulled out his iPhone, the suspect pulled out a gun and took his phone and wallet.

The Metropolitan Branch Trail, used by cyclists and runners, starts at Union Station in the District and extends 8 miles north through Silver Spring.

The trail has been the scene of five incidents from May to June, including one where a victim was tasered.

In response, the Guardian Angels have also begun patrolling the trail, as parts of it are hidden from street view.
