Fairfax Co. Releases Decade Worth of Police Shooting Details

The Fairfax County Police Department has released additional information on every shooting in the past decade that involved an officer.

FCPD released its "Officer-Involved Shooting Summary" on Tuesday, publishing on its website internal investigation information from 37 cases.

"I would like the community to understand we're making efforts to increase our communications, and the officer-involved shooting summary over the last 10 years is one of those efforts," Police Chief Ed Roessler said.

The document drop follows scathing criticism of how the department handled requests for information on the fatal shooting of John Geer in August 2013.

Mike Curtis, who started the police watchdog group Justice for John Geer, said he didn't see much progress.

"We already have websites like KilledByPolice.net, so this information is already available. There's no new information added to it," he said.

Police said information on any future shootings involving officers will be posted on the county's website.
