Police Say 19-Year-Old Lied About Gang Initiation Attack in Arlington Park

A 19-year-old Arlington man lied about being attacked with a knife during a gang initiation, police said.

Police say Julian Leiter reported last Thursday that he'd been attacked by teens who claimed they were participating in a gang initiation, according to a police statement.

Leiter said he was in Quincy Park in Arlington, Virginia, about 8:40 p.m. when a would-be attacker approached with a knife, police said. He said he fought back and ran from that person and three others, police said.

Police were called to the park after the assault was reported. Officers and members of the Gang Unit conducted what police call "a significant investigation" and determined that the attack never happened, police said Wednesday.

Leiter was charged for filing a false police report, police said.
