Police say they have identified a body that was found in a Gaithersburg park retention pond early Sunday afternoon.

Matthew Baker, age 25, was from Gaithersburg. The cause and manner of his death still are under investigation.

Montgomery County police and fire crews were called to a small pond near the entrance of Nike Missile Park along Snouffer School Road shortly before 12:30 p.m. Sunday. A passerby called police after seeing a body in the pond.

Police said Maryland-National Capital Park Police were at the pond Friday night after someone reported finding clothes near the water. Investigators from both agencies are working to determine if these two incidents are related.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Major Crimes Division at 240-773-5070. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS or leave a Crime Solvers tip.
