Police Arrest Suspect in 2013 Killing at University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Maryland State Police made an arrest in the 2013 slaying of a student at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

About 9 p.m. Feb. 16, 2013, during homecoming week, 21-year-old Edmond St. Clair was riding in a car traveling across the campus when he and the people was with came across a several people walking in the street, police said. St. Clair got out of the car and got into a fight in which he was stabbed.

St. Clair was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police found a folding knife at the crime scene that had St. Clair's DNA and the DNA of an unknown person, police said.

An ongoing investiation eventually identified Davonta M. Braxton, 25, of Baltimore, Maryland, as a suspect and a warrant was obtained for his DNA, police said. Forensic scientists determined he matched the DNA on the knife.

Braxton, who intermittently attends UMES, was arrested on campus about 10:30 a.m. Friday. He is charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
