Pepper Spray Allows Shoplifting Suspects to Flee

Police said a shoplifting accomplice used pepper spray to get away from store employees Friday afternoon at an Annapolis shop.

Anne Arundel County police said a female suspect entered the Ulta Beauty store in the Harbor Center Shopping Center and started putting a large amount of perfume in a shopping bag. When the suspect tried to leave without paying for the merchandise, a store employee tried to grab the bag.

Police said when that occurred, another woman waiting outside of the store sprayed pepper spray at the employee. Both women fled the scene in a car that had the license plate covered by a plastic bag.

The employee was treated at the scene and taken to the hospital for evaluation. A store manager was also affected by the pepper spray, but declined medical treatment.

Police said the two women matched the description of suspect in prior thefts from Ulta Beauty store in the area.

The suspect who took the merchandise was described as a heavy set black female possibly in her 20’s wearing a gray t-shirt and black pants. The suspect who used the pepper spray was described as a black female also possibly in her 20’s wearing a black t-shirt and white shorts.

Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects or suspect’s vehicle.
