A person walking near the Tidal Basin was hit by a car Friday night and killed.
The pedestrian was hit about 8:20 p.m. on Maine Avenue SW near the 14th Street overpass, U.S. Park Police said. The victim was rushed to George Washington University Hospital and pronounced dead.
The victim's identity is being withheld until the family is notified of the death. Information of the cause of the crash wasn't immediately available.
The following streets were closed during the investigation: westbound Maine Avenue at 12th Street; the westbound I-395 ramp to Maine Avenue and eastbound Maine Avenue at East Basin Drive.
