One man is dead after a shooting on the western edge of the National Mall.

Authorities received multiple calls reporting a shooting in the area of the Mall shortly before 8 a.m. Sunday.

The intersection of Ohio Avenue and Independence Avenue was closed until noon for the investigation.

Law enforcement did not immediately make public any findings on the nature of the shooting.  D.C. Police said on Sunday afternoon that no foul play was suspected, and that suicide was being considered as a possible cause of death in the investigation.

The deceased has not been identified.
