Motorola Solutions Foundation has donated $100,000 toward construction of a Virginia public safety memorial.

Gov. Bob McDonnell and Motorola Solutions announced the donation to the Virginia Public Safety Foundation on Monday.

The memorial will be built to honor the nearly 750 public safety workers who have died in the line of duty, along with the 165,000 public safety officers serving Virginians every day. About $800,000 has been raised for the memorial, which is scheduled for construction in 2013. McDonnell says Motorola's contribution is the largest so far.
