Mother of 9-Year-Old Boy Beaten to Death Over Slice of Cake Sentenced to 25 Years

Oriana Garcia told paramedics her son was only congested after her boyfriend beat the boy unconcious

The mother of a 9-year-old boy who was beaten to death in Maryland over a missing piece of birthday cake was sentenced to 25 years in prison Friday, court records show.

In July 2015, Oriana Garcia’s son Jack was beaten to death by her boyfriend, Robert Leroy Wilson, who suspected Jack of eating a piece of birthday cake meant for his 2-year-old daughter. Wilson is currently serving 30 years for second-degree murder.

The boy’s uncle, Jacob Andrew Barajas, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in February for his role in the boy’s death. Barajas handcuffed Jack to a chair and watched as Wilson beat the boy until he was unconscious.

After Barajas called an ambulance, Garcia dismissed paramedics, telling them her son was only congested, police said.

Garcia pled guilty to first-degree child abuse resulting in death in February.
