Missing Teen's Dad on Arrest: “I Can Rest Better Now”

Michael Johnson charged in Phylicia Barnes' death

The father of a North Carolina teenager whose body was found in a Maryland river months after her 2010 disappearance says that he can rest better now that there has been an arrest in the case.

Baltimore police told The Associated Press early Thursday that Michael Johnson had been arrested in the death of 16-year-old Phylicia Barnes, of Monroe, N.C.

Prosecutors and investigators are expected to release more information, including the charges Johnson faces, at a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Barnes' father, Russell, said Johnson was in the process of breaking up with the teen's older half-sister around the time of the teen's disappearance and he was the last person to see the teen alive. He said Johnson was someone the family trusted, but his behavior after the teen vanished made them suspicious.

Barnes' body was found a year ago in the Susquehanna River by workers at the Conowingo Dam.
