Metro Plans Changes for Marine Corps Marathon

Metro is making some changes to accommodate runners of Sunday's Marine Corps Marathon.

As many as 30,000 runners are expected to participate in the 37th annual race, which begins just before 8 a.m. in Arlington and passes the Washington Monument, Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials as well as the Pentagon.

Metro officials say that the system will open at 5 a.m., two hours earlier than usual, for the event. Metro will also operate additional blue line trains before and after the race. The Arlington Cemetery station near where the race ends will not open until after the official race start. Metro says the station may only be used to access the finish area or for runners leaving after the race.
