Md. Officials to Urge Safer Boating

News conference comes after two deaths over Fourth of July weekend

Maryland officials will be reminding people to be careful on the water.

Maryland Natural Resources Police and the Maryland Park Service have scheduled a news conference on Thursday at Sandy Point State Park.

It comes after two deaths from drowning on state waterways over the Fourth of July weekend. There also have been 28 boating accidents in the last two weekends.

Officials will discuss ways to best protect children at the water's edge. They also will talk about safe boating and how to help someone in distress.

With most of the summer still ahead, state officials are hoping to put residents and visitors on guard against accidents.
